Hi.

Welcome to the blog.  Here you'll find stories and photos of our South American Journey

Buenos Aires (BA). The first Visit. 28 172 Km

We finally arrived in Buenos Aires, 6 weeks after leaving Ushuaia.    We were so excited to arrive it was hard to know where to start, but with one of the easiest cities to negotiate on public transport and foot, we hit the streets to explore what has been called the Paris of South America.

We decided this was not going to be the only visit to BA this year and this time we would stay in Recoleta, not far from the main train and bus station, in our first time AirBNB.  This awesome apartment turned out to be in a great location and a gentle 20minute stroll had us checking out Casa Rosada and exploring the relatively new neighborhood of Puerto Madero.

With the help of a Street photography tour, we spent most of first 2 days wandering around. From exploring the more upmarket areas of Palermo to the slightly rougher (but touristy) area of Boca.

I find it hard to actually put into words why this city is so great. In some ways it is a place you need to walk around to discover for yourself.  We were amazed by so many things.  People watching whilst siting in a plaza, walking past the odd collection of shops, restaurants, and bars of some areas, the ease of public transport.

Though there was so much more of the city to explore, we were also really excited to be heading out to Lollapalooza Argentina, two days of music from local and international artists.  Thankfully most of the acts we wanted to see started a little later in the afternoon and we had a chance to get out to Boca in the morning of the first day.

But then it was on to Lollapalooza!

Whilst it may have been a bit muddy on day one, the place was packed with excitement.  It was set in a massive racing arena, 4 stages, 80 000 people (on day one - 100K people day 2).  And the sky put on a little show for us.

Though the Friday night highlights of Monsters and Men and Eminem were pretty awesome, It was the Saturday line up of Mumford and Sons and Florence that we just could not wait to see.  And the wait was worth it because both sets were fantastic,

In the end it was actually a super quick passing through BA but there are plans to go back in a few months.  For now, we are heading across the river to Uruguay, where after a week on the beaches we will head to Montevideo and language school.
